Who We Are

Anglican Church of North America

We belong to the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA.org). It was formed in 2009 to provide a home for persons in the United States and Canada who choose to worship and practice our faith in the Anglican tradition. We adhere to its historic teaching in the 39 Articles. We hold the Bible to be authoritative in all that it teaches. Our bishops are in Apostolic Succession.

Grace Anglican Church of Boise was formed in 2007 and joined the ACNA when it was established in 2009. We were blessed with being able to build our own building at the corner of Milwaukee and Northview and began worshiping there in 2021.

Within the ACNA, Grace Anglican Church is part of the Diocese of Western Anglicans in the U.S. The ACNA is a province of the Global Anglican Communion, which is distinct from the Canterbury Communion. The Global Anglican Communion includes parishes in North America, including some in Mexico, and most of the African provinces, the Archdiocese of Sydney, and the Southern Cone of South America.

Clergy, Staff, and Ministry Leaders

Clergy

Grace Anglican has one priest, the parish’s rector, Father Jeffrey Smith, and two assisting deacons, the Reverend Stephen Barton, Deacon, and the Reverend Ronald Jutzy, MD, Deacon.

The Reverend Jeffrey Smith, Rector

Rector Fr. Jeff Smith, an Anglican Priest for 40 years, has served as a vicar, a seminary instructor, a teacher, and a rector of several congregations. In 2017 he moved with his wife Lynn to Boise to serve as rector of Grace Anglican Church. Fr. Jeff was ordained as a deacon in 1985 and as a priest in 1986. He earned an A.B. with Honors at Pitzer College and an M.A. in History at Loma Linda University where he studied Church history. It was while working on a Ph.D. at UC Berkeley that he received his call to ministry and switched to seminary. He finished seminary at St. Joseph of Arimathea Anglican Theological College in Berkeley with a Bachelors of Sacred Theology.

Fr. Jeff was born in Glendale, California. He met his English wife, Lynn, at a classical music concert in Augusta, Georgia, while he was rector of an Anglican church in Aiken, South Carolina. During his time off here in Boise, he and Lynn enjoy an evening at the Boise Philharmonic. They also enjoy ballroom dancing. And they can be found at Boise’s World Center for Birds of Prey viewing condors, eagles, hawks, and falcons. They love to travel and visit family, art museums, and a wide variety of places of interest.

The Reverend Ronald Jutzy, MD, Deacon

208-861-9701

Dr. Ron Jutzy is a recently retired neurosurgeon who trained at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He practiced for many years in Boise and received numerous awards in appreciation for his dedication to patients and families. While practicing neurosurgery, he was ordained in the Anglican Province of America as a deacon and is a founder of Grace Anglican Church. Ron is a lifelong scholar of religion and a voracious reader.

Ron likes and lives the saying that Jesus meets us where we are, but loves us way too much to leave us there. Ron and the love of his life, Lana, are natives of California. They enjoy classical music together, and have been instrumental in fostering the traditional Anglican music at Grace Anglican, where Lana sings in the choir. The Jutzys' home hosted many a choir rehearsal... and many a party.

Ron and Lana’s children and grandchildren live in Spokane, WA, Chandler, AZ, and the south of France. Holidays find the extended family gathered at one of their homes, as they live and cherish life together both in person and long-distance.

The Reverend Stephen Barton, Deacon

208-866-6100

Steve Barton grew up in the Church of the Nazarene and spent many years actively serving in bus ministry, teaching Sunday School groups ranging from fifth grade to college-aged and young married adults, and serving on church boards.

He earned his B.A. in Business and Accounting from Northwest Nazarene College and M.S. in Business Administration at the University of Wyoming.

He worked for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C., before retiring and returning to Idaho.

Deacon Steve’s journey to Anglicanism began nearly 30 years ago, when he felt a longing for deeper worship within church services. That led him and his British wife Sandra “Sam” to a small, independent church shaped by the liturgy of the Book of Common Prayer, and to an exploration of ancestral roots during their visits to England. One day, praying before an ancient Anglo-Saxon cross, the prayers and liturgy came alive for him; not long after, he and Sam joined Grace Anglican.

He later served seven years on the Vestry (four as treasurer and two as senior warden) helping guide the church through fundraising, securing a building loan, and constructing the facility God provided through the faithfulness of His people.

Steve served as a lay minister until his ordination as a deacon on July 18, 2025. Steve and Sam have three grown children and five grandchildren. He serves as the administrator of Grace Anglican.

Jeffrey Whittaker, Seminarian

jcharleswhittaker@gmail.com

Jeffrey Whittaker first felt the call to ordained ministry at the elevation of the host during Holy Eucharist. Since then, he and the Church discerned his call to the priesthood. He is currently enrolled in Trinity Anglican Seminary’s Master of Divinity program as one of the many aspects of priestly formation and takes classes both online and in-person during week-long intensives. Jeffrey is passionate about prayer, all things monastic, and the Great Tradition of the Christian Faith. He believes that Christ’s love and holiness is present in the liturgies of the Church.

Jeff, a graduate of The Ambrose School, now teaches 5th grade there. His wife Moon is also a teacher and enjoys painting religious artwork. Their daughters attend Christian school.

His responsibilities at the parish include leading the youth group, hosting Anglican Theology Barbecues, and teaching Sunday school.

If you have any questions or want to schedule a time to get coffee and discuss God and Anglicanism, please contact him at the email address above.
