What Is Anglicanism?

We adhere to the Anglican tradition of Reformed Catholicism, which means that we teach the doctrines of the Universal Church while holding the Protestant principle of sola Scriptura, that all the Church’s teaching must be based on what is clearly stated in the Bible. We also hold the general tradition of the historic Church in high respect as a reliable interpreter of Scripture.

Our formularies are all found in the 2019 Book of Common Prayer. They include the three Ecumenical Creeds, 39 Articles, and the Declaration of Jerusalem—all of which define the Global Anglican Communion confessionally.

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only-begotten Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,

and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father [and the Son],

who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

Catechesis

Grace Anglican Church offers an Adult Catechism in three sections—doctrine, ethics, and worship—over an eight-month period of the year.  The catechism prepares believers for confirmation in the Anglican Church. We also call this our Inquirers Class—so as to invite those who merely want to explore Anglicanism, as well as church members who might like to have a refresher.

We lead a Family Catechism for youth and their parents whenever there is a need for it. The Children’s Sunday School also has a Catechism for Children, which prepares them for their First Communion.
